Louise White asks whether being a politician can be made a noble profession again.
TOPIC 1: ASSISTED DYING
TV personalities Judy Finnigan and husband Richard Madeley have said they have agreed to an assisted death pact should one of them fall seriously ill. In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Madeley said: "If Judy was really ill and in logical mind...I wouldn't give a tuppenny if there was a risk of being prosecuted. I'd do what was right for my wife."Finnigan added: "And I'd do the same. Stuff it all! We've made ourselves give each other a pledge along those lines."
Alistair Thompson, a spokesman for Care not Killing, said in a statement: "This is another deeply depressing and misguided set of comments from two much-loved celebrities, who should know better."
Louise asks: Does Richard and Judy's assisted death pact, help or harm the cause of assisted dying?
TOPIC 2: CAREER IN POLITICS
On the 20th anniversary of MP John Smith's death (Monday 12th May 2014), the John Smith Centre for Public Service is being set up to 'promote public service as a noble vocation'. The MP's daughter, advocate Catherine Smith has said the expenses scandal sent the image of politicians into a downward spiral and that it was important to rebuild the reputation.
Louise asks: Can we make being a politician a noble profession again?
