Climate change winners and losers
This week, following the recent publcation of the latest IPCC report on climate change, Adam Walton explores the potential winners and losers in the animal and plant kingdom. While arguments may continueΜύover the details of climate change, recent research by groups of scientists across the world has indicated significant impact on various species of flora and fauna, across land and sea.

Adam chats to Dr Pippa Moore of IBERS at Aberystwyth University, who was one of the authors of a study by an internationalΜύteam ofΜύscientists drawn from Australia, Canada, USA, Spain, Germany and the UK. They produced maps which show how plants and animals will have to shift locations to maintain their ideal habitat as the climate changes.
Μύ
We hear from two scientists working at Bangor University, DrΜύMark de Bruyn and Dr Michael Knapp,Μύwho have both used anicent DNA to study how animal populations were affected by previous periods of upheaval in the planet's climate such as the last major ice age. Elephant seals and cave bears were studied to determine how these species adapted as conditions cooled and warmed over many thousands of years.

The programme is also joined by two advisors for the National Trust - Matthew Oates who is a wildlife specialist, and Coast & Marine Advisor Phil Dyke who discuss changes to the coastline caused by rising sea levels, and changes to habitats for many species.
