Interview with Ofcom
Ofcom is the body which oversees communications in the UK, including broadcast television. Since the 2003 Communications Act, they’ve required broadcasters to make a certain amount of their content accessible through subtitling, signing and audio description. They were also instrumental in the creation of the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust (BSLBT) and currently have a new consultation relating to how the BSLBT is funded. This consultation closes at 5pm on the 22nd of September 2014.
See Hear’s William Mager went to talk with Peter Bourton, Head of TV content policy at Ofcom, about subtitling, signing, deaf television and what the consultation is all about.
