Female GPs
There are more female GPs now than male, according to new figures from the Health and Social Care Information Centre β numbers which have risen by 50 per cent in a decade, while the number of men fell in the last year. But with the proportion of women set to increase and lead to more and more part-timers, and doctors leaving to be mothers after expensive medical training, is this an added burden to the NHS? Is the feminisation of general practice contributing to the βcrisisβ in general practice? Or is it a long term benefit? Should more be done to enable GPs to return after motherhood? And does medicine need to change its working patterns so female doctors are attracted to other areas of medicine too? To discuss, Jane is joined by the new Chair of the (RCGP), Dr Maureen Baker.

Rachel Podger is a Baroque violinist, known for her highly accurate, virtuosic playing, and her decidedly non-stuffy stage presence.Β She decided early on she wanted to study the Baroque violin, and in defiance of her teachers at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama surreptitiously took lessons in the instrument with a private tutor.Β Sheβs one of the winners in the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Music Magazine Awards, and she joins Jane Garvey to talk about her passion for her art, and she plays live in the studio.
Male Sex Workers
It has been twenty years since the laws on prostitution have been looked at and over the past few weeks Womanβs Hour has investigated the proposals to get England and Wales to adopt the βNordic modelβ.Β This would mean the criminalisationΒ of those who pay for sex and the decriminalisation of those who sell it.Β Β As a part of our series of interviews and discussions on prostitution Jane Garvey speaks to Benedict and Greg, to find out what led them to be sex workers and their response to the proposed criminalisation of those who pay for sex.Β
