Revving things up!

Get lively every morning with the breakfast show. Expect lots of great music, news headlines, a look at the papers, regular sports updates and a daily Pause for Thought.

Chris revs things up on the eve of our National Classic Car Day...

We start under the bonnet with our mechanical master, Joe Macari, who talks about how he re-commissioned the legendary Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and how to get your classic cars out on the road...

Motoring on with our MG, that's Mystery Guest not the car manufacturer, she is a finely tuned Trustee of the Bucks Federation Women's Institute; it's Pat Poole...

We have a bit of a blow out with our top tenuous, thankfully it's not a tyre, but with your desperate claims to the fame of 'being blown out'...

Today's show is dedicated to all dust sufferers...

And today's show is entitled: Work for a cause not for applause!

Pause for Thought

Pause for Thought
Father Christopher Jamison, Benedictine Monk:

Ìý

Lent is six weeks long and this is the fourth week, which means we’re over half way so keep going with those resolutions. In this final fortnight of Lent, Christians imagine themselves accompanying Jesus as he heads towards his passion and death on Good Friday. So this morning I’m going to think about pain. Ouch! Pain is so hard to deal with; it can obliterate all other considerations and take over the life of the person suffering. Rich or poor, brilliant or ordinary, anybody can be overwhelmed by pain. Globally, millions suffer the pain of chronic disease and hunger. Even in this country, with the advances of medical science, pain remains part of life. For example, 8 out of 10 people in Britain will experience serious back pain at some point. Pain should never be sought for its own sake but many cures involve pain and pain can be a warning sign, a helpful indicator that something is wrong. Whichever way we look at it, pain is an integral and even essential part of life. Yet people are at their most vulnerable when in pain. And that’s why in the coming two weeks Christians marvel that God in Jesus shared this vulnerability as he underwent flogging and crucifixion. This is a good moment to reach out to those who suffer because nobody should have to experience pain on their own. The hospice movement is one of the great achievements in this area, accompanying the dying and reducing their pain. I know from my own experience as a priest that to accompany somebody in pain is a gift for the suffering person and for the one who holds their hand. A person’s pain is an invitation to love them and I’ll think about how to respond to that invitation as I prepare for Easter.
