Johnnie revives the spirit of freeform American FM radio, playing the artists nurtured by 'underground' radio and the contemporary musicians who have been influenced by them.
Johnnie revives the spirit of freeform American FM radio broadcast during the late sixties and seventies. Tonight we hear tracks from many of the acts formed in San Francisco and the Bay Area, including The Doobie Brothers, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Santana and The Steve Miller Band. Johnnie pays tribute to the DJ Tom Donahue, who started the FM underground radio revolution and is most associated with the San Francisco station KSAN.
