Brian Matthew brightens up Saturday morning with the songs that sound tracked an influential era in pop music.

The Lovin' Spoonful, Bobby Vee, Joe Brown, The Fireballs, Val Bennett, Peter Sarstedt, The Mamas & The Papas and The Swinging Blue Jeans are amongst some of the 'avid' requests being honoured this week.

The latter of which is 'Hippy Hippy Shake', originally written & recorded by Chan Romero in 1959. Nearly four years later, The Swinging Blue Jeans decided to revive the song just after The Beatles had performed it for a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ session in July 1963. The Swinging Blue Jeans' version of the song landed at number two during the fourth week of January but only held the position for one week.
