Mary J Blige has been called the Queen of Hip Hop Soul. She’s won 9 GRAMMY awards and sold 50 million albums worldwide. Her 1994 album “My Life” is reckoned by Rolling Stone Magazine to be one of the top 500 albums of all time. But the 1990s were turbulent years for Mary personally and she battled with drugs, alcohol and depression. She talks to Clare about how her faith has helped her to leave those addictions behind, and about her Christmas album "A Mary Christmas" which was released at the beginning of December.

The Lantern Carols
The Lantern Carols is a sequence of musical pieces by the Manchester based composer Sasha Johnson Manning, with words by Sharon Grenham-Toze, which tell the Christmas story using the lantern as a motif. They will be premiered at the church of St Martin in the Fields, Trafalgar Square on Monday, 23rd December.
