MULL RALLY
Duration: 00:56
Mull
This week the whole programme comes from the Isle of Mull.
The team
Dougie, Sarah and Euan explore the wildlife, industry and leisure activities on Scotland’s fourth largest island which is home to a population of four thousand people.
Glengorm
Visitors to Mull spend Β£58million each year. Many visitors are attracted to the island by the spectacular wildlife. Glengorm Estate employs a full time wildlife ranger. Stephanie Cope takes Euan on a wildlife tour of the estate.
The Floating Pier
Mull has thirty-two thousand acres of Forestry but harvesting the timber and getting it off the island has always been a problem. Dougie meets the technical masterminds behind the creation of a floating pier which means the timber no longer needs to be transported on Mull’s narrow roads.
Iain Mackay
Getting a foothold in the farming industry has never been easy but it is especially hard in island communities. Euan goes to meet tenant farmer, Iain Mackay, who has had a twenty year struggle to achieve his dream of farming on Mull.
Art in Nature
Dougie travels to Calgary Bay in the North West of Mull to meet wood carver, Mathew Reade, who takes his inspirationΜύ from the sea shore.
