The French National Assembly will vote today on legislation which aims to clamp down on prostitution. The most controversial article of the bill proposes to impose fines of up to 3 750 Euros on prostitutes’ customers, and was backed by the French Parliament on Saturday. Supporters of the bill hope that it will both discourage traffickers and pimps, and help those who want to leave prostitution. Opponents argue the legislation cannot be enforced and will drive prostitutes into the shadows, making their lives more dangerous. Dr Belinda Brooks-Gordon, Birkbeck Reader in Psychology and Social Policy, and Mary Honeyball MEP join Jenni to discuss the potential impact of the new legislation and the different approaches around the world.

The Shoe Collection at Northampton Museums and Art Gallery is the largest collection of footwear heritage and design in the world, covering design, fashion, manufacturing, and history. The museum is now looking to develop its vast collection using donations from the public. Their campaign, called We Want Your Shoes, is asking people to send in old shoes with special memories. Over the next weeks we’ll be hearing the unique shoe stories from three donors, and in our first report Councillor Anna King from Northampton Borough Council takes Tamsin Smith behind the scenes at the museum, where the donations are arriving.

The award-winning writer Virginia Gilbert joins Jenni to talk about her debut novel, Travelling Companion: a psychological thriller set on a sunny, sleepy Greek island - the story of how ordinary people commit appalling acts, and how horrific actions can grow from the most trivial of misunderstandings.
