It’s long been suspected that, in some cases, the police have discouraged women who claim to have been raped from pursuing their allegations. It was quoted in Professor Sue Lees 1996 book Rape on Trial that it was a way of keeping down the crime figures. Now a serving Metropolitan Police Officer has confirmed that the rumours are true.
