Beatles at the Â鶹ԼÅÄ

4 Extra Debut. It’s back to the early 1960s when the Beatles burst forth on Â鶹ԼÅÄ radio. Ken Bruce plunders the vintage archive. From 2013.

Ken Bruce presents a chance to hear the Beatles as Â鶹ԼÅÄ audiences would have originally encountered them.

This programme features extracts from ‘Pop Go The Beatles’ [July - September 1963], ‘Public Ear’ [November 1963], ‘From Us To You’ [March 1964’ ‘The Alan Freeman Show’ [July 1964], and ‘Saturday Club’ [November 1964] to create a revealing portrait of how British audiences would have originally heard The Beatles, the way they presented themselves and the impressions that they left.

In addition to songs recorded in Â鶹ԼÅÄ studios, the programme also contains interviews with the Fab Four and a glimpse behind the scenes as they attempt to record ‘I Feel Fine’ for a ‘Saturday Club’ session.

Broadcast on 4 Extra to mark the 60th anniversary of the Beatles first universal chart number 1, From Me To You, in May 1963.

Producer: Mark Hagen
