Next year new guidance for psychologists will be introduced which effectively extends the adolescent period to the age of 25. This is a sign that coming of age has transformed in recent decades. Compared to previous generations, today young people are encouraged to stay in education longer, they are having children later and - be it through choice or financial necessity - increasing numbers are living with their parents. According to the TUC, today is Equal Pay Day, the point in the year on which a woman in full-time employment effectively stops earning.
