Each week, songs are played by artists who have been inducted into 'The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame'. Working alphabetically through the list of inductees, tonight Paul plays 'Blue Moon Of Kentucky' by Elvis Presley as an example of the bass playing of Bill Black who was inducted in the 'Sideman' category; plus 'Paranoid' by Black Sabbath. In the regular feature 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face', songs are played from albums by Al Green and The Mavericks.
In 'A Matter Of Life And Death' Paul celebrates the birthday of Jay Black by playing his hit with Jay & The Americans 'Cara Mia'. We pay tribute to Gloria Lynne, who has recently died, by playing her hit 'I Wish You Love'. 'It's Not The Same Old Song' highlights 'No Regrets (Non, Je Regrette Riens)' by Edith Piaf and a different song with the same title by Tom Rush. In the feature called 'Both Sides Now', Paul plays a single by an American artist that was a hit in the UK but not in the US and an American hit by a British artist that was not successful in the UK.
Our R&B number ones are from 1975 and this week by War and Robin Thicke with Pharrell. We hear Country number ones from 1997 and now by Shania Twain and Luke Bryan. This week's featured past Rock number one is by Yes. 'Lightning Bolt' by Pearl Jam is the number one album in America.
