Interviewees

Alexander Stoddart

Alexander is one of Scotland’s most renowned sculptors. He is Sculptor in Ordinary to the Queen in Scotland and has made statues that can be seen in many Scottish towns and cities. He tells Sally about a commission to make a larger–than-life size sculpture of Jesus and the twelve Disciples for a private chapel.

He explains how he enters a trance like state when fashioning the models from which his sculptures will be made; the figures forming beneath his fingers without him being consciously aware of what he is making. He describes the process as being about inspiration rather than creativity.
