Ian McMillan presents Radio 3's 'Cabaret of the word' from the Free Thinking Festival. The theme is 'Letting go is good for you!'. His guests include Daljit Nagra, Kate Fox, Nadine Shah, Michael Smith and Maxy Neil Bianco.
Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3's Free Thinking Festival takes place at Sage Gateshead 25-27 October and is broadcast for three weeks on Radio 3 from Friday 25 October.

Daljit Nagra
Daljit Nagra is the author of two poetry collections, ‘Look We Have Coming To Dover’ and ‘Tippoo Sultan's Incredible White-Man-Eating Tiger Toy-Machine!!!’ (Faber). Daljit has written a new version of the Indian epic, The Ramayana. Daljit tells us what inspired him to add his voice to the many versions of The Ramayana, and most importantly for Ian, how the geographical elements of the story turn old rivalries on their head.
Kate Fox
Kate Fox is a stand up and poet. She was the poet in residence for Glastonbury festival and is a regular on Radio 4’s Saturday Live.  As the theme of The Verb is Letting Go’, Kate has written us a poem on this theme, as well as gamely taking up Ian’s challenge to write an ‘Instant Poem’ about her fellow guests.
Nadine Shah
Nadine Shah has been compared to PJ Harvey and Nick Cave. While she doesn’t want to give away all her song-writing secrets, Nadine tells us how she starts out writing songs, and performs Her debut album ‘Love your Dum and Mad’ (Apollo) is out now. and performs Used it All and Dreary Town for us, from her debut album ‘Love Your Dum and Mad’ (Apollo Records)
Michael Smith and Maxy Bianco
The writer Michael Smith and filmmaker Maxy Bianco have produced a series of ‘film poems’ about the North-East, ‘Another England’. Michael and Maxy discuss their approach to filmmaking, and Michael Smith also reads from ‘Unreal City’ (Faber) his new book about London, which features a soundtrack composed by Andrew Weatherall.
