Musician and comedian Harry Shearer guests
Jools is joined by the mighty Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap! Or is it Mr Burns from The Simpsons? Both, actually, as actor, comedian and musician Harry Shearer is our guest.
Joining Jools this week is the mighty Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap! Or is it Mr Burns from "The Simpsons"? It's both - actor, comedian and musician Harry Shearer is our guest, chatting and singing XTC live with the band.
Harry Shearer is an actor, author, director, satirist, musician, radio host, playwright, multi-media artist and record label owner. Building on his four years-plus worth of writing (and broadcasting) about the causes of the 2005 New Orleans flood, Shearer made a feature-length documentary, "The Big Uneasy".
Following 2007's Grammy-nominated CD, "Songs Pointed and Pointless", and 2008's Grammy-nominated "Songs of the Bushmen", Shearer released "Can't Take a Hint", featuring guest performers ranging from Fountains of Wayne and Jane Lynch to Dr. John and Alice Russell. Last autumn he executive-produced, co-wrote, and starred in "NIxon's The One", a TV series airing soon in the UK.
He's perhaps best known for his voice work on "The Simpsons", where he plays Montgomery Burns and Ned Flanders among a host of others and for his work with Christopher Guest and Michael Mckean as fictional rock band Spinal Tap and made-up folk ensemble The Folksmen
In October 2006, Shearer released his first novel, Not Enough Indians . The book takes a darkly comic look at the proliferation of Native American gaming and what happens to the fictional town of Gammage, New York, when it transforms into the sovereign nation of the long lost Filaquonsett tribe.
