In his antepenultimate 'Song Show', Russell Davies re-visits some friends and acquaintances - Dave Frishberg, performing a song that was apparently co-written by Hoagy Carmichael and Rudy Vallee (really?); two great bass players ripping into a much-loathed (by some) show song; a great tribute, by John Pizzarelli, to Nat King Cole; a memorable performance from a memorable album by Carmen McRae; a celebration by Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters, reunited with their musician friends - and seven recordings that recall three recently departed friends - Jane Harvey, singing with Benny Goodman and his orchestra and also with pianist Dick Wellstood; Marian McPartland at the keyboard in her own 'Piano Jazz' radio programme in company with Joe Williams - and personal friend and colleague, David Jacobs, remembered through four of David's particular favourites: Vic Damone singing 'On The Street Where You Live', Sarah Vaughan with 'Just Friends', Frank Sinatra in company with Nelson Riddle on 'I've Got The World On A String' and - most poignantly - Bing Crosby and the MGM Orchestra recording from the sound-track of 'High Society' with 'I Love You, Samantha' - David's long-serving signature tune.
