The Office of Fair Trading wants payday lenders investigated because it says they're confusing, restrictive, and target desperate people.
The lenders say they provide a useful service and they're not expensive - if people use them properly.
We're in tough financial times, with many people struggling to make their money stretch through the week.
Are payday loans a safety net? Providing a lifeline between pay cheques, or benefits payments? Are they misunderstood? Even demonised
Or are lenders simply making money out of people who've run out of options - society's poorest, and most vulnerable?
