The United States has announced that it will give military support to the forces trying to bring down the regime of Syrian president Bashar Assad. Hospitals are missing the chance to save the lives of people with alcohol-related liver disease, due to a lack of specialist care and a failure to correctly diagnose alcohol abuse, according to a study by the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death. Dr Mark Juniper, co-author of the report and a consultant at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, and Donna, a recovering alcoholic, provide their insights and experiences.
