The Middleton Family

The Middleton family are all involved in Surfers against sewage, a campaigning group who regularly clean up beaches across the world removing litter and debris washed ashore.Ìý

In 1986 Sarah & her husband set up TYF – an adventure business on the Pembrokeshire coast and it is still flourishing today.

Sarah’s father in-law Dr George Middleton lives in St Davids. He moved there in the 1950s and was the town’s GP.Ìý In 1961 George founded the Porthmawr Surf Life Saving Club on Whitesands beach. Now in his 80s George still loves the sea and likes to kayak and surf, he is also an active supporter of the RNLI. All of George’s grandchildren have trained as lifeguards and have spent summers working for the Surf Life Saving Club.

Maureen Guy & John Mitchinson

Maureen & John have been married 55 years. They are both retired opera singers and bothÌý had glittering professional careers.

Maureen was born in Wales, grew up in Glamorganshire and then in her late teens moved to London to pursue her dream of becoming an opera singer. Her story is similar to Connie’s and although both women established their careers in London and whilst touring (in the UK & abroad) they agree their hearts have always belonged to Wales.Ìý Maureen’s distinguished career includes Principal Mezzo Sopranos roles with the English National Opera; The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden; the Welsh National Opera and the Farnkfurt Opera House, Germany.

Even though she has retired from public performing Maureen teaches opera students at her home.Ìý Maureen and John regularly attend Carew Wesley Methodist Chapel.

Andy Garrett and Jonathan Beharral

Andy and his friend Jonathan Beharral are keen coastal path walkers and attend Westgate Evangelical Chapel in Pembroke. At Easter 2012 they staged a 24 hour walk carrying a 7 x 4ft driftwood cross, which Andy had made to raise awareness for persecuted Christians worldwide.

At Easter 2013 they walked with the cross again to raise awareness for the Soldiers & Airmen Scripture Readers Association (SASRA).

Saundersfoot Beach Mission

Robyn is the daughter of Rev John WelsbyÌý and Cherie Welsby who run Ìýthe Emmanuel Christian Centre, church and bookshop in Haverfordwest. ÌýRobyn grew up in Haverfordwest in a close-knit community. Every summer their home and church became a hive of activity as volunteers from all corners of the UK and abroad came to work with her parents on the beach mission, which takes place over 3 weeks in August at Saundersfoot beach, south Pembrokeshire.

Robyn’s parents met at Merseyside Bible College and in their early twenties felt God was calling them to Pembrokeshire. As students John & Cherrie volunteered at the beach mission in Saundersfoot.

In 2013 the beach mission will run for 3 weeks in August (26th July – 17th August). Thirty-six Christian volunteers (over the age of 16) will form 3 teams, each team of twelve people works for one full week. They live together in shared accommodation, delve deeper into their faith together and go through the basic techniques of evangelism.
