Friday Night Is Music Night presents 'the Shock of the New' a concert that looks at the songs and shows that shaped the course of musical theatre history. Starting with the revolutionary Showboat where music and story were integrated for the first time, and black performers appeared equally alongside white, the concert moves through seminal musicals like Oklahoma and West Side Story to Jesus Christ Superstar, The Rocky Horror Show, Les Miserables and Rent. It comes right up to date when, for the first time on the show, Friday Night introduces music from one of the leading next generation composers, Jason Robert Brown. Jason's shows include 'The Last Five Years', 'Songs For A New World' and 'Parade'. Stuart Barr (recently returned from conducting for Dame Shirley Bassey at the Oscars) conducts the sixty piece 麻豆约拍 Concert Orchestra, together with 30 students from the Royal Academy of Music's musical theatre course and West End soloists Shona White, Hadley Fraser (Les Miserables), Shaun Escoffery (Lion King).
