Billy Connolly on Bert Jansch
Mark presents an hour of the best folk and acoustic music, including a chat with Billy Connolly about a re-released Bert Jansch film.
Mark Radcliffe presents an hour of the best folk and acoustic music, with the latest releases, classic tracks and news from the folk scene.
This week, Mark talks to Billy Connolly about the late, great guitarist Bert Jansch. Household name Billy - comedian, actor, singer and banjo player - presented a 1992 film about Bert called Acoustic Routes. The documentary saw Billy explore the brilliant and influential guitarist's music with help from Bert himself, as well as Hamish Imlach, Anne Briggs, Davy Graham, Archie Fisher, Albert Lee, Duck Baker, Wizz Jones, Martin Carthy, Jacqui McShee, Al Stewart and Bert's own hero Brownie McGhee. The film includes special performances by many of these great names.
Jan Leman's BAFTA-nominated film will tour selected cinemas from 1 March 2013, with a DVD and CD release to follow on 25 March. On this week's Folk Show, Billy tells Mark Radcliffe about making the film and the enduring power of Bert's recordings.
