500 WORDS, the story writing competition for children, aged 13 and under, closes on Friday! Chris begins the countdown with 5 top tips from our expert judges.

We have a new head judge this year, CΒι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond. Also brand new for 2013 are Frank Cottrell-Boyce, the award-winning novelist and screenwriter, who scripted the Opening Ceremony for the London 2012 Games, and made Chitty Chitty Bang Bang fly once again for young readers. And Malorie Blackman, whose literature and television drama credits include the Noughts And Crosses series.

They join returning judges Dame Jacqueline Wilson and Charlie Higson, in picking their favourite stories from a shortlist of 50, drawn from two age groups: children aged nine and under, and those aged between 10 and 13.

Entries must be received by 7pm on Friday, so tune in for expert inspiration and get writing! More info about the competition is available at bbc.co.uk/500words.
