Ireland - Flags and emblems are a sensitive issue in Northern Ireland; violence flared up there after Belfast City Council made its controversial decision to restrict the flying of the Union flag over City Hall. This followed a summer of heightened tensions between Northern Ireland's Catholic and Protestant communities; riots in September left dozens of police officers injured and just more than a month ago, a prison officer was killed in a suspected dissident IRA attack, the first such attack in years. We explore how these issues are affecting local communities, try to unpack how deeply held divisions are reconciled and consider what the Church's role is in all of this.
Stained Glass Window Pack - Throughout 2012 Anne Ellis has been travelling across Scotland for this programme finding out about places and objects of spiritual interest. Today we're featuring the Nativity story as depicted on a stained glass window at St Mary's Parish Church in Kirkintilloch by legendary artist Willy Rogers.
Christmas Films - If there's one thing that can squeeze the Christmas spirit out of even the most stingy Scrooge, it's a great Christmas movie! We look back at some classics and consider some of the big titles out this Christmas to see if they are likely to bring a little festive cheer to the most hardened cynics.
End of the World Theories - According to the Mayan Calendar, the world will end on the 21st of December. All mainstream religions have their view of the End of the World, and popular culture is full of stories of zombie apocalypses and environmental disasters. One man who's fascinated with end-time theories is writer Ted Harrison - and he's even written a book about the subject. 'Apocalypse When?' He joins us to explain why we're so interested in the end of the world!
