Providing better care and treatment for Diabulimics - Diabetics with Eating Disorders

The charity has been campaigning to get diabulimia recognised as a specific medical condition by the UK government and medical professionals.ΜύDiabulimia is an eating disorder where type 1 diabetics omit or manipulate their insulin in order to lose weight.ΜύHowever abuse of insulin in this way has serious health implications and can lead to strokes, blindness, heart attacks, kidney disease and death.ΜύDWED says most health professionals don’t how to treat diabulimics and so outcomes for these patients is very poor. Jacqueline Allan, Director of DWED tells Jenni why proper recognition of the disorderΜύis crucial for the treatment and care of diabulimics in the UK. Tayler Hackett was diabulimic from the age of 12. She talks about her experience living with, and overcoming the condition.

Brit award winning singer songwriter Kate Nash wants to encourage more women to write and perform their own music.ΜύTwo years ago she set up free Rock n Roll for Girls After School music clubs in 6 secondary schools, and this Christmas she invited some of her students to perform in front of an audience of nearly a thousand at an End of Year Gala at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. Tamsin Smith went to meet her backstage before the gig along with girls from Liverpool and Yeovil.
