Conor Maynard: Mayniacs Take Over
Nick Grimshaw chats to teen RnB sensation Conor Maynard and finds out why being called a 'Mayniac' is a badge of honour. Plus hear an exclusive play of his first recorded demo!
Despite his down to earth demeanour, Conor Maynard is not just any normal 19 year old. Whilst most guys his age are busy with computer games, college or finding a job - Conor found himself locked in a bidding war between record labels, US R&B star Ne-Yo and Pharrell Williams!
Not bad for a kid that, just a couple of years ago, was singing covers in his bedroom and uploading the videos to YouTube, content with notching up a few views each month and the odd comment from his Nan.
Little did he know that, through the internet, he was stepping on to the biggest stage possible and was on the brink of taking the music world - and boys and girls hearts - by storm.
Fast forward a few years and Conor has one of the most subscribed YouTube channels in the UK and is the owner of a Number 1 debut album, produced by big names such as The invisible Men and Midi Mafia; and featuring collaborations with the likes of Rita Ora, Ne-Yo and Pharrell, as well as a special track penned by Frank Ocean.
This is the story of Conor Maynard, as told by those that know him best - his friends, family, his YouTube collaborators, 'brutha from anutha mutha' Anth Melo, his band and producers Midi Mafia and The Invisible Men.
Nick Grimshaw chats to Conor as we chart his story so far, hearing an exclusive play of a previously unreleased track from his first ever recorded demo as we go, as well as excerpts from some of his live shows.
And of course, we hear from some of his fans. The ones who made it all possible in the first place - THE MAYNIACS!
