Carole is in among artichokes and asparagus. Artichokes outside, both Chinese and Jerusalem varieties, are a good news story despite the weather and are coming on well. Asparagus in the tunnel is promising a crop for next year and Carole shows what should be done now to ensure that crop.

Now that the nesting birds have said goodbye to their broods, it is hedge clipping and pruning time. Jim, Carole and Lesley each take a different type of hedge in the garden to show various techniques for each situation.

George is in Gartcosh with Susan and Roddy Sheridan, who have been married for three years and have recently moved into their newly built house. It is their first garden and they are learning as they go. They would like help to disguise ugly but necessary services on the front lawn, which previously they had spray-painted to try and match the lawn. George makes the services disappear with planting and gravel.

Carole visits the recently overhauled garden of Westfield Lodge, Milltimber near Aberdeen. Head Gardener James Fraser takes Carole on a tour of the developments. James has converted the old greenhouse into a tropical house complete with a raised koi carp pool, and is also rebuilding seven large water features in the garden. Huge old conifers have been removed to give way to new herbaceous border to give the garden much-needed colour, and what James is enjoying very much having come to Aberdeen from the south, is that herbaceous displays last so much longer and stay fresh here compared to down south. Finally a positive spin on our weather!
