But when the writer and stand-up performer AL Kennedy visits, in the course of desperately trying to finish her latest novel, she's all too aware of the great and the good who've undone themselves there, from John Belushi to Jim Morrison and Helmut Newton. For her, it's more akin to the Overlook Hotel in Kubrick's horror film, The Shining.
