Episode 2

SiΓΆn Williams relives the 1953 Coronation celebrations in Wales, hearing how one policeman on duty in Llanelli disobeyed orders to ensure the crowd had a better view.

SiΓΆn Williams continues to relive the Coronation celebrations that swept across Wales during the summer of 1953.

Guided by rare archive film, which was shot in glorious colour by amateur filmmakers, SiΓΆn meets some of the tens of thousands of people who lined the streets for a momentuous first glimpse of the young Queen Elizabeth as her Coronation tour arrived in Wales. She hears how one policeman on duty in Llanelli disobeyed orders to ensure the crowd had a better view, and the indentical twins from Cardiff who claim the Queen's car actually slowed down to allow her to wave to them.

What happened to the many 'Coronation Queens' who were crowned in Wales that summer? SiΓΆn hears from Honora Pendrous who, six decades ago, brought some Royal glitz and glamour of her own to public celebrations in Newport.
