The MasterChef finals are reaching boiling point as the three exceptional finalists face their penultimate and most terrifying challenge - The Chef's Table. First though, the cooks must make three types of amuse bouche - a bite sized tingler for the tastebuds which showcases the chefs approach to cooking.

Next, the finalists must cook an exquisite three-course menu designed by three Michelin starred chef Clare Smyth for seven of the world's greatest chefs. Claire Smyth, known for her uncompromising standards and meticulous work ethic, is the only female chef in the UK to hold three Michelin stars.

The final three have to prepare one course each from the daunting menu. Tension is high and the pressure immense in the kitchen, as the finalists battle to overcome new techniques, working with unfamiliar ingredients in highly complex three star dishes.

Not only are the contestants desperate to make Claire Smyth proud with perfectly executed dishes, they are also out to prove their skill and talent to the esteemed guests seated at the Chef's Table - seven of the culinary industry's greats, who have mentored them along the way and between them hold 11 Michelin stars. Throughout the competition the three have been inspired and taught by these most celebrated chefs including Tom Kitchin, Jason Atherton and the legendary Michel Roux Jr. This is their chance to prove to the best in the country they have what it takes.

With the final cook off ever closer the pressure is immense for the finalists. Emotions are running high as they attempt to bring all elements of their dishes together at the pass, with the chefs scrutinizing every microdetail.

Only their absolute best will do now, as just one can be crowned MasterChef Champion 2012.
