Alicia McCarthy reports on proceedings in the Lords as Labour peers call for ministers to be given the power to intervene over whether holders of broadcasting licences pass the "fit and proper person" test.
The demand follows the recent arrests of senior journalists at Rupert Murdoch's Sun newspaper.
Former Chancellor, Lord Lawson, says Labour must "learn a little patience" on dealing with the economy in response to opposition criticism of the coalition's economic strategy.
And peers debate moves to reduce the number of people who have to have a criminal record check before working with young people.
