Alan Titchmarsh recalls childhood memories of brass bands, his collaboration with Black Dyke on 'Ground Force' and the place brass and military band music has played in his life.

Alan Titchmarsh has enjoyed the sound of brass bands since first hearing The Hammond Sauce Works Band on the streets of his home town in Yorkshire as a child. He's enjoyed a close association with the famous Black Dyke Band who provided the signature tune for his TV gardening success Ground Force, a partnership which led to the band recording a tune named in his honour, The Titchmarsh Warbler. He tells Frank Renton how hearing the military band each year at the Chelsea flower show helps him to keep in touch with a style of music making that he really enjoys.
