Desmond celebrates 30 years of weekly broadcasts on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 2 by revisiting the playlist from his 1981 debut.

When the Radio 2 series All Time Greats began on Sunday 4 October 1981, Desmond [a successful actor and broadcaster] was chosen as its first presenter. He fully expected to be replaced after three months, but the series took off and, thirty years later, the 85 year old remains an integral part of Radio 2's weekly schedule.

In 2004, All Time Greats was exchanged for a new series on Tuesday evenings: The Music Goes Round. And this programme continues to the present day, at 7pm on Friday evenings, where Desmond gently pilots listeners away from Radio 2's up-tempo daytime schedule with an eclectic - and often surprising - mix of records, new and old.

Together with his long-standing friend and producer Dave Aylott, Desmond researches and scripts all the record introductions, broadcasting each week from his home in Perthshire. His warm tones and informative chat continue to be welcomed by all age-groups from the UK, and around the world, as hundreds of letters and e-mails bear witness.

Desmond's 30-year old playlist includes Up Up And Away by The Johnny Mann Singers; Glenn Miller's Moonlight Serenade; The Way We Were by Barbra Streisand and Duke Ellington's Satin Doll.
