An hour of the best in folk, roots and acoustic music, including an interview with English singer and musician Jackie Oates.

Mike Harding presents an hour of the very best in folk, roots and acoustic music, including classic tracks and the best new releases. His guest this week is one of the stars of modern English folk music: Jackie Oates.

Jackie first appeared to audiences as a member of Rachel Unthank & The Winterset and as a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 2 Young Folk Award finalist in 2003. Since then she's made her mark on the British folk scene with a succession of remarkable albums, each showcasing her remarkable talents as a singer, fiddle player and arranger of traditional music.

Her fourth solo album, Saturnine, is released this week and on tonight's programme she talks about the musical epiphanies and personal journeys that inspired the record's unusual mood and instrumentation.

It's been a busy year for Jackie. She's played key roles in several major folk projects, including the Cecil Sharp Project, The Imagined Village and Fresh Handmade Sound. Alongside these she continues to teach music. Tonight she explains to Mike just how she fits it all in.
