Bob Childs and Jim Hayes
Frank Renton and conductor Robert Childs take a look at his book celebrating 125 years of The Cory Band and cornettist Jim Hayes talks about his first solo CD.
Frank Renton talks to conductor Robert Childs about his book celebrating 125 years of The Cory Band and cornettist Jim Hayes discusses his first solo CD, Dial M for Midnight. We hear music from James Wearing's one man military band recording and Frank Renton recalls the effect that hearing Hans Gansch playing Song and Dance with Brass Band Oberoesterreich had on him. The ex-principal trumpet of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra signalled the arrival at the top of the brass band scene of a major talent who was going to show a completely different style of quality cornet playing.
