As spring gets well underway, there are enough beautiful flowers popping up in the countryside to inspire any gardener. At Longmeadow, Monty Don adds to his collection of fritillaries in the wet meadow with pot-grown plants, as well as sowing some from seed. Taking inspiration from nature, he also recommends other wildflowers which would thrive in the garden.

Carol Klein meets Matt Bishop at the Garden House in Devon. Matt has a particular passion for old-fashioned varieties of daffodils. He explains why he is attracted to later flowering varieties and demonstrates how he is using them to breed new ones.

Rachel de Thame visits a viewer who has recently inherited a garden whose borders are choked with out of control shrubs. As well as getting to grips with pruning an overgrown area, Rachel divides and plants easy perennials for a blaze of summer colour.

Back at Longmeadow, Monty celebrates the versatility of one plant, the euphorbia, which will bring colour, form and longevity to all areas of the garden from full sun to dry shade. He also begins work on planting a variety of ornamental vegetables, such as ruby chard and red cabbage.
