Fitzroy MacLean: To Russia with Love

Sir Fitzroy Maclean was Churchill's man in the East, a member of the SAS and close friends with Field Marshall Tito of Yugoslavia. Brian Wilson presents the archive of his life.

It's one hundred years since Sir Fitzroy Maclean was born. He was a founder member of the SAS, arguably the inspiration for James Bond, a writer and historian and also a trained killer. He was Churchill's man in the East and a close friend of Field Marshall Tito of Yugoslavia. In this edition of the Culture CafΓ© Brian Wilson, who served as a foreign affairs minister and whose constituency included Sir Fitzroy's home, finds out more about the colourful character whose real life adventures were the inspiration for other more fictional works.
