Despite vocal campaigns against it, Farming Today hears claims that putting a high speed rail link through the English countryside will benefit rural areas. It costs Β£2600 a year more to live in the countryside than the city, according to the Office for National Statistics. Charlotte Smith asks if it is worth it, and hears from economist Neil Lee, from the Work Foundation, who says despite the move towards living in cities, many of the cliches of the rural idyll ring true.
