Heather wakes in her freezing bedsit, with no electricity or hot water. Heather cleans Shirley鈥檚 house. She washes George at the launderette and discovers her afternoon shift鈥檚 been cancelled. Proud, Heather turns down Billy鈥檚 bag of free vegetables. Jane鈥檚 irritated when Heather insists she can鈥檛 host book club. Hungry, Heather narrowly misses out on finishing Dot鈥檚 breakfast. Shirley fobs Heather off when she asks for her cleaning wages, Heather accuses Shirley of being a useless friend since she鈥檚 been with Phil. Heather takes George to work with her, she鈥檚 thrilled when she opens a letter with a 拢20 note inside - she鈥檚 Minute Mart Employee of the month. Heather buys Dot chocolates and is about to top up her electricity key, when she realises Patrick forged the letter and puts her remaining money in the till. Morgan breaks the wheel on George鈥檚 pushchair; Heather鈥檚 furious and takes his 50p pocket money, angering Carol. Heather leaves George alone in the flat and sets out to find her mother and ask for money, giving her last coin to a homeless man on the way. Queenie鈥檚 not at her flat, a neighbour reveals she moved away years ago. Panicking, Heather rushes back to George. She packs a bag, takes George and gives him to Darren. Returning to the flat, she finds her cleaning money and an eighties tape pinned to the door with a note asking her to come to R&R. Carol and Morgan return George鈥檚, fixed, pushchair and Carol reassures Heather she鈥檚 not a bad mother. Heather plugs in her electricity key. She plays Shirley鈥檚 tape. At R&R Shirley鈥檚 prepared an eighties night for Heather. Shirley鈥檚 angry when Heather doesn鈥檛 turn up, heads to her flat and bangs on the door. There鈥檚 no answer. Inside, Heather鈥檚 slumped in her armchair, unconscious.
