Voice actor and mimic Lewis Macleod looks at oratory in all its forms, from Burns Suppers to best man speeches, and gets to the bottom of this most human of anxieties.

1/2
Be it a best man's speech, a presentation at work or a stand up taking his first faltering steps, there is nothing that prompts the sweats more than getting up in front of fellow human beings and talking. We've all had experience at one time or another, and for some reason the human condition has trouble dealing with all that nerve inducing adrenalin and noradrenalin coursing through our bods. The sweaty palms; the increase in heartbeat; the deep rooted fear that we're just going to make a complete hash of it, we've all been there! Voice actor and mimic Lewis Macleod is fascinated by both the horror and the joy of public speaking. As a character actor and renowned voice artist responsible for countless TV commercials and radio comedies, he loves the skill of great orators but equally recognises the fear it can create as often in his line of work he is required to address an audience. He wrestles with the notion that attitude rather than good preparation is the key when approaching a speech, however he's found his nervous energy never really worked for him either! Just what is the best preparation for public speaking?
