Cathy MacDonald marks a Year of Song with a selection of musical archive material.
In this week's Zone Cathy MacDonald marks a Year of Song, with a selection of musical archive from Gaelic to Scots, traditional to contemporary, jack to rock, opera to pop. She'll be mining the archives for some of the best, including the Burns classic Ae Fond Kiss and the old borders ballad The Dowie Dens of Yarrow. John Purser will explore medieval Scottish love songs and 20th century working songs in two episodes of his epic survey of Scotland's Music. Riley Briggs will perform some of his own songs and discuss his musical influences in Thank You for the Music and she'll be on the island of Canna to profile the Gaelic folklorist Margaret Fay Shaw Campbell.
