Scarlett's test results come back - will her worst fears finally be confirmed? Jack's latest infidelity is revealed on the radio, and the locals are curious about the mystery woman.
Murray and Gina are happier than ever, both enjoying the rejuvenated relationship. Murray asks what Gina is up to later and is pleased to hear she'll be late. He reveals he's got something nice planned, but she'll have to wait and see. Gina continues to be loved up until she sees Jack and feels a heavy bout of guilt. She decides that today is the day she's going to end her affair. Jack's reaction is surprisingly blasΓ© but what Gina doesn't realise is that it's macho bravado and he's actually deeply hurt.
Jack seeks Gina out again and this time admits being dumped has rocked him far more than he would have thought possible. He opens up to Gina but is Jack being genuine or is he deliberately tugging on Gina's heart-strings? Gina does her best to pep him up and inevitably the comfort turns physical in the radio station. The microphone is accidentally turned on and various members of the community listen aghast to the broadcast. Only Jack's voice is heard and everyone assumes he's with Hayley. However, in a quiet corner of the pub Murray holds the engagement ring as he listens, devastated, suspecting the worst. Meanwhile, Robbie and Nicole's disgust soon turns to horror when they realise it wasn't Hayley with Jack. Gina feels immediately ashamed - she and Jack are finished for good.
Back at the salon, Robbie is in a dilemma about what to say to Hayley. He is incensed when Jack is affectionate with Hayley and rails against him. Hayley busts their row and demands to know what's going on. Robbie reluctantly spills the truth and Hayley is devastated. Determined to front it out, Hayley insists she and Jack show face at the pub. Jack is horrified at the idea but Hayley thinks it's the least he can do. The atmosphere in The Ship is hardly festive as Hayley drunkenly tries to 'out' Jack's mystery woman, Murray suspects the worst of Gina and Jimmy jumps to the wrong conclusion about Scarlett. It's only when things get heated between Jimmy and Jack that Gina announces the truth.
Gina tries her best to explain to Murray but is stunned to learn that he already knew. She considers this to be a weakness on his part, indicative of the problems they were suffering. Murray vehemently fights back and Gina sees the strength of character and love it took for him to try to win her back. Gina realises just what she might be losing as Murray demands time alone.
Scarlett's day hasn't been much better. Michael finally tracks her down and confirms her worst fears. She does have ovarian cancer. He urges her to have surgery immediately but Scarlett is adamant - not until after Christmas. If this is to be her last one, she won't have it ruined. Michael is frustrated and warns Scarlett that she may not have the luxury of time. Post-affair accusation, Scarlett promises Jimmy she would never hurt him and only wants to protect him, obliquely referencing her cancer. She buoys a nervous Madonna up to play her part in the nativity and watches her with pride and sadness as she performs. Realising what she stands to lose, Scarlett tells Michael to book her surgery. It's time to fight back.
Amber teases Fraser about being a stick in the mud and unable to have fun. Challenge accepted, he treats her to a Cary Grant-style reincarnation of New York - Shieldinch-style. Amber mocks the sentimentality but, in spite of herself, she has a good time and they grow closer.
