THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND THE CLAUDY BOMB

William Crawley and guests debate the week's religious and ethical news and explore the world of culture and ideas. Including News.

On today's programme: Was the Catholic Church was right to co-operate with the police in removing the priest suspected of terrorist activities from the jurisdiction of Northern Ireland in 1972? Was that co-operation a form of collusion? Or was it an entirely justified response to the moral dilemma facing the church at the time? Police Ombudsman Al Hutchinson leads a debate on the morality of the church's role in the case of Fr James Chesney. He is joined by Fr Timothy Bartlett, a senior advisor to Cardinal Sean Brady, former victims commissioner Mike Nesbitt, columnist Breidge Gadd, and historian Dr Eamonn Phoenix. And Bishop Edward Daly explains why he believes James Chesney was innocent and has been "maligned" by recent coverage of the Ombudsman's report into the Claudy bombings. We'll also examine the case for funding homeopathy on the NHS after British doctors say homeopaths should be forced to label their products -- as placebos.
