The third in our series of Great Scottish Train Journeys - we explore the route from Edinburgh to Berwick upon Tweed along the East Coast Mainline.

The journey begins in the capital, with a birds eye view from the top of Edinburgh's mountain, Arthurs Seat.

Before we leave the city completely, we hear how the East Coast Mainline follows the 'Invaders' Route', East Lothian and the Borders being fought over and upon for centuries.

As we head along the banks of the Forth, we encounter what is believed to be Scotland's first industrial estate near Prestonpans.

Just the other side of Prestonpans, we pass the unmistakable Cockenzie Power Station.

After a brief foray inland, the train is coastward bound again at Dunbar - where's there's also an opportunity to get off and head to Belhaven Beach to go surfing.

Dunbar is probably best known for being the birthplace of conservationist, John Muir. We explore the wilder end of the John Muir Way at Dunglass.

The cliffs of St Abbs Head are home to thousands of birds. The waters below are contain a wealth of marine life, which makes it a hot spot for diving. In order to protect the sealife, a voluntary marine reserve was set up by the community.

Finally, we cross the border and reach Berwick Upon Tweed, the site of many battles and an enormous swan colony.
