Episode 5
Clare English talks to Christina Schmid, whose life has been at a standstill since the death of her husband, bomb disposal expert Olaf Schmid.
Christina Schmid has shown extraordinary resilience after the loss of her husband Olaf, who she says was the one person who she could never do without. Her courage and outspoken attitude have made her a media heroine and an effective campaigner on behalf of the over-worked and under-equipped members of the army's Bomb Disposal officers in Afghanistan.
But how has she copied with the fall-out in her personal life? The pain and loss are heart stopping and now that she is no longer working and has had to move out of the house she and her son shared with Olaf, she feels that life has stood still for her. She talks to Clare English about how she has managed this unexpected period of inertia and how it has changed her sense of who she is and what she can achieve in the future.
