Russell Davies celebrates the art, craft and inspiration of the popular song, with music from Dinah Washington, The Beach Boys, John Bunch and Herb Ellis.

A simple phrase that might go un-noticed is picked out as a small but vital part in the construction of many lyrics and Russell spotlights some of Arthur Freed's.

The phrase is "all night (or day) through" and brief investigation finds it lurking in songs by Dinah Washington and The Beach Boys among others.

Thereafter, we pay respects to two departed song-men - pianist John Bunch, and guitarist Herb Ellis.
