Live From The Stables

Remembering Sir John Dankworth with highlights from his Radio 2 series Live From The Stables, which celebrated jazz music with original and surprising collaborations.

Radio 2 continues to pay tribute to Sir John Dankworth with highlights from the long-running series Live From The Stables, which celebrated jazz music with original and surprising collaborations.

John Dankworth was a pioneer of modern jazz in Britain; a superb instrumentalist; a leading composer of film music; a champion of musical education; and the husband of Dame Cleo Laine, with whom he founded The Stables music venue in Milton Keynes and presented a live music programme for Radio 2.

Live From The Stables broadcast between 2001-2005 and featured some of the biggest names in jazz and pop, including Amy Winehouse, Jamie Cullum, Georgie Fame and Ian Shaw, performing with the resident 18-piece John Dankworth Big Band.

In addition to the great memories, music and arrangements, we've dug deep into the archive for never-heard-before outtakes.
