Feis
Thousands of young people currently participate in over forty Feisean throughout Scotland. Ingrid Henderson tells the story of these festivals of Gaelic music, song and dance.
Fèis is the Gaelic word for a festival or feast and over the past 30 years it has become synonymous with the movement running Gaelic arts tuition festivals for young people throughout Scotland. Meeting tutors and youngsters in her home area of Lochaber, Ingrid Henderson tells the story of how the Feis has grown from humble beginnings on the Isle of Barra in the early 1980's to the present. She explains how the movement has played a large part in changing attitudes towards Gaelic and hears why it is now regarded as being rather cool to be able to play a fiddle, pick up an accordion or sing a Gaelic songs.
