Charles Dickens’ classic ghost story was first published in 1866 as part of the multiple author β€˜Mugby Junction’ collection, in the Christmas edition of the periodical β€˜All the Year Round’. The story is said to have been inspired by a the Clayton Tunnel crash, near Brighton, in 1861.
